The Beatles and Jimmy Savile
The Beatles record label, Apple, had studios in 3 Savile Row, London. Jimmy Savile was in with the Beatles from the very beginning, hiring them to play in his nightclubs in Manchester and going on tour with them. He credited himself as the inspiration for Paperback Writer. They would even give him lifts home after gigs. According to Sir Paul, their suspicions regarding Savile grew when he would never invite them in for coffee at his pad when they gave him lifts home. This does seem odd that he would not wish to ingratiate himself as much as possible with a band that he knew were destined to take the world by storm.
“There was something a little bit suspect”: Sir Faul McCartney reveals concerns over Jimmy Savile with typical English understatement.
