Lost archaeological treasures discovered in Middlesex?

by 5ocietyx

Reports reached the 5ociety earlier today that a major archaeological find had been unearthed in Feltham, Middlesex.

The haul, said to include pieces from Greek, Roman, Asian and Nordic cultures was discovered at coordinates 51.43321,-0.413299 but is not thought to be where the excavation site was originally located.

An un-named source added that if verified, the discovery could rewrite British history for the last two thousand years.

Information is patchy at this moment in time although some experts are suggesting it is a hoax and the ‘haul’ has been mistaken for garden ornaments.

Anglesey skeletons suggest existence of ‘warrior elite’

by 5ocietyx

A recent find on the Welsh island of Anglesey is leading researchers to reassess previous ideas about the nature of the isle during the Viking Period (850 to 1,000). In the late 1990’s the bodies of two adolescents, two adult males and one woman were found.

‘Analysis indicates the males were not local to Anglesey, but may have spent their early years – at least up to the age of seven – in north west Scotland or Scandinavia.

Excavations this year also produced 7th Century silver and bronze sword and scabbard fittings.

Archaeologists believe it suggests the presence of a “warrior elite and the recycling of military equipment” during a period of rivalry and campaigning between kingdoms Northumbria and Mercia.’

The Milton Keynes Midsummer Leyline

by 5ocietyx

According to the ‘Pagan Prattle’  “Milton Keynes is designed so that at sunrise on Midsummer’s day, the sun is aligned directly with Midsummer Boulevard & is reflected in the mirror finish of the railway station.”

PP goes on to say:

“But the MKDC [Milton Keynes Development Corporation] have not only made some effort to evaluate and excavate the archaeological features of the area, they have also created a few ‘earth mysteries’ of their own. As Jimmy Goddard has previously noted the three parallel roads through the shopping centre are Silbury Boulevard, Avebury Boulevard and Midsummer Boulevard. And, although I have not been there to prove it, the midsummer sunrise should appear along Midsummer Boulevard, rising over the highest point in MK, the hill in Campbell Park known as the Belvedere. The terminus of this latter-day geomancy is a pond, with a powerful jet of water rising from the middle, surrounded by a circular hedge and paths leading off in the four cardinal directions.”

In the 1980s a Christian group researched the area and became convinced that Satanic forces were at work and in control of the town. Whilst remaining skeptical regarding ley lines in general being the devil’s work we do have our own reservations about MK that will be the subject of a series of posts with an ‘X-Files’ field trip planned to collect more data with which to evaluate our suspicions.

The Ness of Brodgar: Precursor to Stonehenge

by 5ocietyx

Ness of Brodgar with Geophys overlay

Ness of Brodgar with Geophys overlay

Bounded by a 13-foot-thick (4-meter-thick) stone wall, the Ness of Brodgar is located between two other important monuments, the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones of Stenness*

*Stenness incidentally is similar to the place-name ‘Staines’ which means ‘Stones’ as discussed on the ‘Millennium Monolith‘ post

The site at the Ness of Brodgar – a narrow strip of land between the existing Stone Age sites of Maeshowe and the Ring of Brodgar – is massive: the size of five football pitches and circled by a 10ft wall. Only a small percentage of it has been investigated; it is being called a “temple complex”, and researchers seem to think that it is a passage complex – for instance, one in which bones are carried through and successively stripped (there is a firepit across one of the doors, and various entrances, plus alcoves like those in a passage grave, which are being regarded as evidence for this theory – but it’s a bit tenuous at present). Obviously, at this relatively early stage, it’s difficult for either professional archaeologists or their followers to formulate too many firm theories.

Possible Egyptian Pyramids Found Using Google Earth

by 5ocietyx

Lost Egyptian pyramids found

Two possible pyramid complexes might have been found in Egypt, according to a Google Earth satellite imagery survey.

Located about 90 miles apart, the sites contain unusual grouping of mounds with intriguing features and orientations, said satellite archaeology researcher Angela Micol of Maiden, N.C.

One site in Upper Egypt, just 12 miles from the city of Abu Sidhum along the Nile, features four mounds each with a larger, triangular-shaped plateau.

The two larger mounds at this site are approximately 250 feet in width, with two smaller mounds approximately 100 feet in width.

Skeptics argue that these sites were in fact discovered in 1931 but until more data becomes available and field trips to the sites conducted Angela Micol’s claims remain unverified.

Was the Sphinx previously a lion?

by 5ocietyx

Professor Robert Schoch, a geologist and ancient civilisation researcher thinks that the Sphinx may have been a lion originally.

‘…if you look at the current Great Sphinx you may notice that the head is actually too small for the body. It is clear to me that the current head is not the original head. The original head would have become severely weathered and eroded. It was later re-carved, during dynastic times, and in the re-carving it naturally became smaller. Thus, the head of the Great Sphinx is not the original head. In fact, the Sphinx may not have originally been a sphinx at all. Perhaps it was a male lion.’

Egyptian precision

by 5ocietyx

Chris Dunn in the Serapeum of the Great Pyramid

Chris Dunn has this to say about the incredibly flat granite surfaces of the Serapeum, the’boxes’ within the Great Pyramid –

‘The flat surfaces of the inside of the boxes exhibited a high degree of accuracy that is comparable to surfaces found on surface plates in modern manufacturing facilities.

Finding such precision from any epoch in human history leads one to conclude that a sophisticated system of precise measure must have been in existence. This is an area of intense interest to engineers—such as myself—who find in Egypt a language with which we are familiar. This is the language of science, engineering, and manufacturing. Our counterparts in that ancient land left future generations of scientists, engineers, architects, and those who take their instructions and shape materials to their specifications, with a difficult challenge. This challenge is to recognize what they created and provide evidence-based, reasonable answers that give the ancient engineers credit for what they achieved. ‘

The Nebra Sky Disk

by 5ocietyx

The Nebra sky disk is a bronze disk of around 30 cm diameter, with a blue-green patina and inlaid with gold symbols. These are interpreted generally as a sun or full moon, a lunar crescent, and stars (including a cluster interpreted as the Pleiades).
