The SAVILLE Programme

SAVILLE is a classified NSA Type 1 encryption algorithm. It is used broadly, often for voice encryption, and implemented in a large number of encryption devices.

Little is known publicly about the algorithm itself due to its classified nature and inclusion in the NSA’s Suite A. Some documentation related to the KYK-13 fill device and statements made by military officials suggest that SAVILLE has a 128-bit key. On the AIM microchip, it runs at 4% of the clock rate (compare DES at 76% and BATON at 129%). The Cypris chip mentions 2 modes; specifications for Windster and Indictor specify that they provide Saville I.

The funky STU-I KY-70 Secure Telephone implemented the SAVILLE cryptographic algorithm

Some devices and protocols that implement SAVILLE:

  • The VINSON family (voice encryption)
  • APCO Project 25 (single-channel land mobile radios) (Saville has algorithm ID 04)
  • Versatile encryption chips: AIM, Cypris, Sierra I/II, Windster, Indictor, Presidio, Railman

According to cryptomuseum.com

In the Early 1980s, Philips Usfa in Eindhoven (Netherlands) received a first description of SAVILLE, because it was developing its Spendex-40 and Spendex-50 narrow band and wide band secure voice equipment. Unlike before with Aroflex, that used a Philips Usfa designed crypto logic, this time it was decided to implement an existing and already approved NATO crypto logic.

Clearly, this had a number of advantages. First of all interoperability with existing NATO equipment like STU II and VINSON. Secondly, it was anticipated that the NATO approval by SECAN would take much less time, by not having to evaluate the crypto logic.

Rumour had it in those days, that there was a third reason. By implementing SAVILLE in a new national development, the NLNCSA would automatically receive all baseline documentation regarding the crypto logic, which would otherwise not be obvious at all.

Still, to Philips Usfa and its cryptography aware employees it seemed quite peculiar that cryptographic equipment using a foreign, NSA-developed crypto logic, was used to protect top secret information. SAVILLE was implemented in hardware, more precisely in circuits comprising a custom gate array and standard integrated circuits, by Philips Usfa in the first half of the 1980s.

Dancing on the Brink of the World

Anders7777

Anders7777

Anders7777 aka Andrew Rowland passed away over Christmas of last year. A couple of months before he died he started a thread on the David Icke forum relaying the news that Jimmy Savile had been outed as a paedo. This referred to long-standing rumours finally breaching the defensive walls of the mainstream media and controlled public mind. Apparently he made several abortive attempts in the past. This time he caught the tide of the affairs of men.

It instantly became an internet sensation to date receiving over 5 million views, building to over 2500 pages and over 50,000 posts.

For the past few weeks our technicians have been processing and analysing a data-dump of the thread a member of the forum kindly provided when it was at 1882 pages.

Peadopedia Britannica

Whilst the initial idea was to counter information overload by trying to provide a textual as well as graphical overview of a mega-thread that was soon becoming a monster that had become so large that the thread of the thread was in danger of being lost and collapsing under the weight of its own deluge of data, it soon became clear that not only were our technicians trying to understand the subject matter of the thread – we were also inspecting the inner workings of the hive-mind that evolved the thread over time.

Adding to the complexity is the fact that the mega-thread is not one solitary train of thought but is multi-threaded with several lines of inquiry branching into different directions yet posted sequentially on the thread.

So in order to find patterns in the ongoing chatter and attempt to tie these threads together in what had become an all-encompassing investigation that was delving into every dark corner of the land  as well as overseas from castles to seedy King’s Cross bedsits, to children’s homes in Jersey to the Outer Hebrides we decided to utilize the once novel but now dreaded word-cloud interface to display the raw text as this seemed an appropriate tool to try to make sense of over 4 million words in a 25MB text file.

Over the next few weeks we will be discussing the findings and presenting the data in various other forms of info-graphics. If this pilot project from our newly formed technical division is successful we will be exploring other data-sets and developing new tools to analyse and present the data to make it meaningful.

The Kirklees Vampire, the Saville family and the resting place of Robin Hood

Robin Hood's grave

Robin Hood’s grave

The story of Robin Hood being bled to death by his cousin, the prioress of Kirklees, is recorded in a Sloane manuscript. He is said to have died without the sanctity of holy unction and his body was supposedly interred 650 yards from the Kirklees priory gatehouse. Whether he is actually entombed in the Kirklees grave bearing a much later tombstone is a matter open to much speculation.

The apparition most frequently reported in the immediate area, however, is not that of a male, much less a medieval outlaw, but is the spectre of a darkly clad woman ~ sometimes described as a hag in the garb of a prioress from a past century.

There is suspicion amongst members of the Robin Hood of Yorkshire Society that the Armytage family and MI5 are involved in a plot to prevent the public visiting the final resting place of Robin Hood, England’s most famous outlaw.

According to lowercalderlgends.com

In the last couple of decades it has become the centre of a storm over access. Kirklees Park is still a private estate and for many years following her husband’s death, Lady Armytage refused to allow people to visit it, despite the indefatigable efforts of the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society. Moreover, it is claimed that Lady Armytage actively suppressed any mention of the grave in tourist literature or the media and more fancifully that MI5 were involved in a conspiracy to prevent mention of Robin Hood’s Yorkshire connections damaging the Nottinghamshire tourist industry!

The Gothic Press however presents a different perspective on the legend

The grave with its questionable attribution to Robin Hood, is only one of a number of graves, mostly unmarked, at Kirklees Park Estate. The Saville family, who owned Kirklees long before the Armytage family, gave the information to Camden about the grave – the letter is written in Latin and survives; so the grave`s early origins pre-date Armytage control. They enclosed the grave in the early 18th century first of all because of people chipping off bits for souvenirs and it gave them a wonderful “folly” when the estate was landscaped – but it all pre-dates them.
